Obasanjo Holds Talks With Boko Haram To Free School Girls

Nigeria’s ex-president Olusegun Obasanjo has met with people close to Boko Haram in an attempt to broker the release of more than 200 kidnapped schoolgirls, a source close to the talks told AFP. The meeting took place last weekend at Obasanjo’s farm in southern Ogun state and included relatives of some senior Boko Haram fighters as well as intermediaries and the former president, the source said. “The meeting was focused on how to free the girls through negotiation,” said the source who requested anonymity, referring to the girls seized on April 14 from the remote northeastern town of Chibok, Borno state. Reports of the talks emerged as Nigeria’s Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh, said the girls had been located while casting doubt on the prospect of rescuing them by force. “Put on a Gender Lens”, “No To Abduction”, “Bring Back Our Girls”, these were part of the inscriptions on placards as women in AdekunleAjasin University Akungba-Akoko in troop held a rally to promote gender equality.
The rally which was held on Wednesday witnessed a large turnout of from female officers  and both female students of the institution.

Why AAUA Guys Love Starched Shirts

Wearing of heavily-starched shirts, also known as ÈGÉ shirts is a peculiar fashion trend among guys in AAUA. You may call it’s in vogue. Anyone you call it. Some guys prefer applying locally-made or cold-water sachet starch. At times, when you meet a guy wearing an ÈGÉ shirt on campus, the shirt would be as hard as stone. Even if you place the shirt on the floor, I am so sure it will stand by itself.
But let’s ask ourselves, why do AAUA guys love starched shirts so much? This question is coming because I’ve noticed on campus that almost every day you meet lots of guys wearing this kind if shirt. Some guys say ÈGÉ shirts make them look ‘’cooperate’’ or ‘’fitted’’. Others say ÈGÉ shirts give them a kinda unnatural ego or pride as their hands and shoulders are always raised up whenever they are in such shirts. Funny enough, I discovered that loads of guys wear these ÈGÉ shirts in order to look seductive to the ladies on campus as even most ladies ‘’trip for’’ guys in such wears.
I can still remember that I once read a post on facebook some time ago that if you want to woo an AAUA girl, just ensure you putting on an ÈGÉ shirt because this really attracts them. This sounds funny though. But some guys say this is the truth. So to the girls now what do you think?
One thing that sincerely baffles me about these ÈGÉ guys is that despite the very poor state of power supply in Akungba and its environs, AAUA guys still ensure that their shirts are well-ironed, not minding the stress. Sometimes, if you notice very well, you would see some black patches or spots on these ÈGÉ shirts. This is so because the guy made use of stove iron or charcoal iron to iron the shirt. Some guys will go as much as bringing their clothes into the school to iron. “haaaaaa! AAUA ÈGÉ guys, una dey try oooooooo!” when you come on campus late in the evening, you meet mammoth crowd in some selected LTs and Student Union Building. What are they doing there? Sweating profusely and painstakingly ironing their ÈGÉ shirts.

feel free to drop yourr comments if you agree with me or disagree .

Governement May Swap Insurgent's Wives And Children For Abducted Girls

Federal Government might release the so-called "soft detainees" of Boko Haram members in exchange for Chibok girls abducted on April 14. Soft detainees are insurgents' wives and children kept in various facilities nationwide. The Nation quoted its top source as saying: "The government may consider the release of only soft detainees in line with international rules of engagement... They are vulnerable people for whom the rules of engagement allow some human rights waivers." Describing the move as continuation of a similar approval by President Goodluck Jonathan in 2013, the source said the talks are "still at the level of contemplation" adding that there will "certainly" be no outright swapping for Boko Haram militants who are serving their terms.

2015 Elections Should Be Adjourned For 18 Months, Confab Delegate Urges FG

The Federal Government and the Independent National Electoral Commission have been urged to postpone the 2015 general and Presidential elections for at least eighteen months. A Delegate representing the South South geo-political zone of Nigeria at the ongoing National Conference, Chief Okon Osung made the proposition in Abuja yesterday. Mr. Osung is also member of Committee on Public Finance and Revenue, a former Chairman, Nigeria Election Monitoring Group for the June 12, 1993, the former National Vice President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists. According to him, the upcoming February 2015 elections could not be held with the current security challenges Nigeria is facing: Boko Haram engaging in killings and abduction of innocent persons, wanton destruction of property. It has become imperative for Nigeria to have a declaration of a Presidential or National Assembly political-administrative moratorium. The delay of the elections, Osung said, would be helpful in establishing security and peace in the country, while if the present crises in the country were not properly managed before the elections, the probability for military intervention is high.

11 Common Habits Every Student Should Break Before Leaving School

1. Blaming everyone else but yourself: “When you blame others, you give up your power to change”. Anthony. Dr. Robert. Being caught up in the habit of blaming others except you only spells out lack of responsibility. If you are in the habit of blaming your lecturer, friends or school for your results, this habit will not help you in the long run. 2. Spending most of your time on tech gadgets – PC, mobile, TV: “’I wish it need not have happened in my time,’ said Frodo. ‘So do I,’ said Gandalf, ‘and so do all who live to see such times, but that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us’”. In the Movie, Lord of the Rings. The millennial-generation is known for the habit of spending a lot of time on tech devices and activities with little lasting benefits. If you want to get ahead in your career, you must minimize the “unproductive” time you spend consuming devices. The same technology that kills your time is making someone else rich. 3. The it’s-all-about-the-money attitude: “You can have it all. Just not all at once.” Oprah Winfrey. Life is not all about you achieving your money making goals. If you don’t develop the habit of adding value to other people, you’ll have a tough time navigating through life. 4. Keeping every friendship: “The opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice; it is conformity.” Rollo May. Don’t get me wrong – we all need to make and keep friends. But if your friends aren’t adding value to your life, and don’t share in your aspiration, there is no point trying to conform. This simply means to choose who your ‘close’ friends are. 5. Worrying about competition: In the end, the only competition you have is with yourself. You goal is to strive to be better than you. 6. Trying to be perfect: “Life is not about being; it is about becoming.” Ikenna Odinaka. Perfection is a quality we may strive for, but we can never reach. Being judgemental and condescending is a sure way to build an island. Accept that you are human prone to make mistakes. Forgive yourself when you do, learn from your mistakes and move on. Likewise, understand that people aren’t perfect either. 7. Being selfish –it’s all about me attitude: It should never be all about the money nor all about you. Be considerate. If your dream does not have other people in it, it is not worth dreaming. 8. Doubting your potential and ability: Sometimes, School system can steal away your true personality and make you believe you are not as capable because of your poor performance in exams and tests. The reality is that life is not about passing tests and exams. And you have within you what it takes to achieve your dreams no matter how poorly or excellently you may perform academically. 9. Hating to read: “It is what you read when you don’t have to that determines what you will bw when you can’t help it.” Oscar Wilde. Who you become after school will be determined by the people you meet and the books you read. I’m not talking about academic books but books about self help, business, entrepreneurship, relationship, negotiation, lifestyle or any subject that interests you. You’ve got to cultivate the habit of reading, willy-nilly. 10. Hating to write: “If I went back to college again, I’d concentrate on two areas: learning to write and to speak before an audience. Nothing in life is more important that the ability to communicate effectively” Gerald Ford. Everyone cannot become an excellent writer but everyone can and should learn basic communication writing skills. You are forgiven if you don’t like the academic style of writing. That makes the two of us – in fact most accomplished authors and writers defile the academic writing style. So you are in safe hands, if that is you. 11. Dodging to speak in public: This one is huge and a career killer. Everyone at one time or the other has to deal with this demon. In fact, having the fear of speaking in public is human. According to study, for most people, the fear of speaking in public is only second to the fear of death. That should encourage you that it is safe to have these fears. You can join a Toastmasters club near you to start developing this skill. Join us at Lighthouse Toastmasters club – I’ll be glad to meet you.

7 Practical Principles On How To Make First Class

by Damilola Olisa

Oftentimes, most students think that making first class is for only the extraordinary students in class, but this is not completely true. I am of the belief that any student can rise up to make first class. This is the reason I have decided to put this article together. This article will be most useful to students in lower levels or freshers. Anyway, students not within this category will benefit from it. Now to these 7 principles.

1. PLANNING: Planning is very important in making first class especially in a university setting where you would have to shuttle schooling and other activities. The problem most students do have is improper planning of activities. Before leaving your room everyday, you should have a written sketch of your activities for the day. Also, planning goes hand in hand with time management. Appropriate time should be allotted for every activity.

2 GO EXTRA MILES: I can remember that this was one of the pieces of advice my elder brother that I have found very invaluable on campus. This applies to you too. It is a major secret of any first class students. You should never be satisfied with only what your lecturer taught you in class, except for few cases. Most lecturers expect more than what they've taught you in class. There is a league of students on every campus who always complain that the university library is stacked with only outdated books. I would encourage you not to join them. No doubt, the library remains an resourceful source of information.

 3. DON'T LISTEN TO THE NAY-SAYERS One thing I have observed closely is, in every department we have the nay-sayers. These sets of students are those who often discourage others from attaining academic success. They tell you things such as: "That lecturer is a sadist, he can never give you an A", "Don't disturb yourself, nobody has ever graduated with a first class from this department and it will continue that way", "I thank God very much that at least I past that wicked lecturer's course with a D", and so on. They are always pessimistic. If you want to succeed, you should not listen to them. Instead you should remain focused and optimistic in everything.

 4. KNOW THYSELF: Do not be the type that follows the bandwagon in making choices. Understand yourself in every way: how you study, how you assimilate, how you convince your lecturers with your points, how you adapt to situations and how you relate with others. I remain that while I was in 100, my room mate was the type who read all night. But I understood myself that I study better during the day. However, I will advise you to be able to adapt easily to strange and demanding situation. But still be yourself.

 5. SET GOALS: Remember that graduating with a first class, which is your ultimate goal will only be achieved when you set goals bit by bit, not necessarily 'big' goals. You can break your 'big' goals into piecemeal. Getting a first class starts by Having A's in a good number of your courses, if not all your courses. Set goal of having an A in every course. Even your tests and assignments as minute as some students mistakenly think they are should not be taking levity at all.

 6. UNDERSTAND YOUR LECTURERS: I decided to include this because from experience I have observed that every lecturer has his own peculiarity. When receiving lecture, one of the things you should do is to study the lecturer, know whether he is the type that loves lengthy or short note in exams, understand his body language. In some cases, if you really study the lecturer, you can guess the area of concentration for his exam.

 7. THE GOD FACTOR: This factor cannot be overruled, I must confess. You seriously need God's favour if truly you desire to make a first class. Some people may want to argue this point by saying that they know students who made first class with much or any belief in God. But for me, my conviction is if you want good success while in and after school, then you really need God.
