How we made first class at Law School —AAUA graduate and ABSU Counterpart

Twenty-five-year-old Opeyemi Longe is used to blazing the trail in the academic world. For 13 years, many students had tried, albeit unsuccessfully, to bag a first class Bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Law of the Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State.

But, in 2012, the native of Omuooke-Ekiti broke the jinx and emerged the first student to graduate with a first class degree from the faculty.

Not done with this feat that has earned him accolades and admiration, Longe, who was admitted to the Abuja campus of the Nigerian Law School in October 2013 for the one-year mandatory vocational legal training for aspiring lawyers in the country, pledged to keep the flag of excellence flying.

Apart from being one of the four students that shined at the 2014 Part II Final Bar Examination of the NLS, Longe has also emerged as the first law graduate of the AAUA to obtain a first class degree from the 51-year-old institution.

The other successful students who obtained a first class degree at the NLS this year are Ikechukwu Uzoma from the Lagos campus of the NLS who graduated from the Abia State University, Uturu; Anita Omonuwa (Abuja Campus), a graduate of the University of Reading, United Kingdom; and another student from the Bayelsa campus of the school. The mass failure recorded at the law school this year has remained a subject of discourse among legal luminaries and educationists.

According to the summary of the result posted on the NLS website, mynls.com, only 3,418 out of the 7,176 registered students passed the examination.

The Chief Butcher of the Boko Haram sect, Zakari Mohammed Ardo, yesterday, gave a chilling description of how the terrorist group used to slaughter people they capture, saying it only takes him two minutes to butcher victims and enemies condemned to death. Ardo, who had been reported in some media (not Vanguard) as having escaped from Police custody, said the group’s butchering committee was made up of five persons of which he is the chairman, pointing out that the other members will hold down the already tired victim while he cuts off the head. Chief Butcher Zakari Mohammed Ardo Speaking through an interpreter in Kanuri, the ‘Chief Butcher’ who claims to be 30 years old and from Darazo Local Government Area of Bauchi State, said: “I joined the Boko Haaram group two years ago. Before I was arrested, I have slaughtered five people.”

10 Life Lessons Every Nigerian Student Should Know Before Graduating From School

As a student you probably would not believe us if we tell you that are absolutely naive and no, you are not on top of the world. You will soon graduate from the university, service year is going to be awesome (at least according to the stories you’ve heard. After service, you are going to get a job, have a family, build a home, become a millionaire and live happily ever after. There is just one problem with your plan. The only problem with your plan is the real world.

This article is to lets students know things to look out for before they graduate so they don’t get railroaded.

1. A Degree Does Not Entitle You To A Job We all know getting a degree means a lot of hard work and commitment but because you have a degree does not mean somebody is going to grant you an automatic job offer.Gone are the days when all you needed to get a good job was a university degree. We were all told the same lies in secondary school, get a university degree and a mouth watering job would fall on your lap.The smart people are the ones who figured out this lie early in school and made sure the time they spent in school would separate from other students who were busy enjoying school life to the fullest. It’s time to get your head out of the sand.

2. Start The Job Search Before You Graduate Job hunting is a complicated thing and there is no almighty formula for you to acquire a job. Job seeking is not something you can “cram” for and pour out everything during an exam. There are no cheat notes for post-graduation experience. The job hunting business is an on-the-training experience and the best way to get ahead of your colleagues is to start your career exploration during your service year or better yet during your university days. You can research branches of your field, do internships (industrial trainings), find out what size of company is for you, and practice job searching techniques.Put these tips in play and by the time you’re done with service, you’ll be prepared for the next phase of your life and it will be quite tricky for reality to hit you with tons of bricks.

3. Facebook Is Forever Not just facebook, but twitter, instagram, and every other social network that you decide to be a part of. What does this mean to an average student? Well it means that every obscure joke you post on Facebook, every explicit picture you share, every inappropriate comment will be visible to the world when you become famous or when you go job hunting. At the very least, know how to manipulate your social media privacy settings and restrain yourself from littering your social media accounts with unfitting content.Being appropriate on the web is just as important for a political career as it is for finding employment. Your binge drinking photos might be funny now but they won’t be so hilarious in five years time.

4. Life Is Expensive You are probably surviving on the allowance you receive from your parents right now and you’ve realized that life can be expensive, EXPENSIVE.Just wait until you have to live on your own, probably during service year or when you get your first job.By the time you pay for house rents, transportation fare, recharge cards, light bills, water bills, food, utilities, and every miscellaneous expense. It won’t take long before you realize that life is expensive. Everything would suddenly become so expensive that you would sometimes feel like crying. This is one of the most painful things to learn. EVERYTHING costs money. Anytime from now, you should learn how to create a budget for yourself. Otherwise your rent will be due, your kitchen will be empty and you will be busy dodging from the people you owe money.

5. Never Be Scared To Take Chances This is probably the most important lesson you have to learn before you graduate, never be scared to take chances. You’ll never get anywhere you want if you don’t take calculated risks every now and then. No one is telling you to jump out of a plane or go swimming with crocodiles (which would be awesome if you survive), but nothing in life comes easy. Yes, it is cliché, but it the hard truth. After all, nothing can deputise experience. When you become a graduate, the best option is not becoming a boring office robot whose life revolves around work. Your twenties and thirties are the some of the best years of your life, we kid you not. Do not be afraid to face the real world with open arms, explore opportunities, and take chances. You’ll be surprised at what fate has in stock for you.

6. Learn How To Interact With People Learning how to interact is a very valuable skill you need to have in your belt. It is a “street smart” skill. You could read a million books on how to interact with people but the only way to develop your interaction skill is to put it into practice constantly until it becomes a part of you. This skill will surely be tested each time you go for a job interview. Heck! You even need this job more if you are an entrepreneur.Learn to greet people with a smile. Say “thank you, please and I appreciate” whenever the situation deems necessary. These small gestures go a long way to make a huge difference. Don’t be so quick to dismiss the power of appreciation and courtesy.Make small talk, get to know anyone you have to spend more than thirty minutes with, help them if you can. Who knows? You might meet your own saviour. Don’t know what to talk about? You could talk about the TV shows you watch, the cool blogs you visit on the net (don’t forget to mention giftedgreen.com), the weather – hint hint : ).Learn to be always positive, make sure people smile after talking to you.

7. A Skill Will Get You Farther Than A Certificate What we recommend is that you pick up as many skills as possible, as long as you have a passion for it. Do not say “I am studying English Language, why do I need to learn HTML?” If you are computer major, take a couple of management trainings. It will help you in the long run.The skills you acquire do not necessarily have to be educational; you could learn tailoring, baking, programming, carpentry . . . anything. You never know when your minor skill will become your added advantage, or your primary source of income. Not only that, you will be able to converse with a larger variety of different people, plus it shows your employer that you are a fast and versatile learner.

8. Save Something – Anything Start saving now and you’ll be setting the foundation of your financial future. There is always a need to save, even if it is the tiniest bit each month. Like we said earlier, life is expensive and the best way to be prepared is for you start saving right now. Whether it’s for a big purchase, an emergency or for your future it’s important to have a little money for fall back to during rainy days. Trust us, those days will come.

9. You Are Going To Need Lots Of Hardwork You are now a graduate, you no longer need to read through the night, attend boring lectures and write difficult examinations. Your life should be an easy pie from here. Right? Wrong. In fact, this is the time that you need to work harder than you imagined, if you want to be successful. Although you could relax; get a federal government appointment, and retire on your pension. This is perfect, if you want to be mediocre. We are you are among those that want to be successful. In order to do that, you are going to need a lot of brain work, stay up late at nights and lots of reading if you are going to be among the 1%. Even if your father is a billionaire, it’s a lot of hard work maintaining all that money.

10.Success Takes Time After applying all these, do not expect to become a millionaire overnight, or in a week or in a month. Success takes time. No matter the amount of hard work, Success takes time. If you are in a hurry to be successful, you will either fall prey to money swindlers or get yourself entangled in something highly illegal. Neither of them sounds good.

That’s all for now! You don’t have to wait until you graduate to gain these little nuggets of wisdom. Put them to use! Then start collecting some of your own Already have something to add? Leave them in the comment section below.

10 quick ways to get married

Marriage should not pose a challenge when you pull down some barriers and adhere to these rules. Your Mr. /Miss Right might just be some steps away
• Don’t play hard to get
Playing hard to get makes it hard to find Mr. /Ms. Right. You need not pretend to be busy when asked out on a date; neither should you feign nonchalance when you really desire that person asking you out. There is a chance that when you change gear, it can be someone who will make you unhappy.
• Never harbour stereotypes
Not all men fear commitment and not every woman is needy. A large percentage of singles is anxious and seek closeness but worries about love not being reciprocated. Others are avoidant and shun intimacy. People who push others away or have a preconceived idea about intimacy are likely to end up single.
• Don’t hold on to the past
Holding on to an ex or a failed relationship makes it hard to find a new one. For these reasons, you become avoidant and uncomfortable in any relationship – you push others away and compare every new person you meet with your ex. Why not let go?
• Be decisive
If you are in a relationship but do not know what you want out of it, then you may be single for a long time. Have a mind of your own and take the responsibility of making your own decisions in your relationship. Be clear and certain about what you want and set out to get it.
• Be flexible
Already, you have a picture of who your ideal mate should be. Be flexible in your choice, and realistic; you can never get a perfect partner. No one is. Or do you want a relationship like that of the movies? Then, it might take a very long time. Getting stuck on finding all the qualities in your ‘what-I-want’ list is a faster way of remaining single.
• Change your work schedules
Some singles who are searching for mates would not think of you as good material, if you work late nights and on weekends. More importantly, not having the same schedule could be a huge strain on a relationship. It may not be easy to give up your passion or change career for someone, but nights and weekends are when most people are free to spend time together. It could be an expressway to being single.
• Don’t indulge in ‘e-romance’
Online romances may meet some of your attachment needs, but not in a real way. Meet new prospects and stick to more realistic ways of meeting people.
• Be bold and feel secure
Some people avoid committed relationships because they worry they will become dependent on their mate, or break up rather too soon. It may be one fear or another. The trick is to boldly find someone and work at it.
• Believe in yourself
Some people think they simply are not worthy of meeting other people until they lose weight, amass a certain amount of money or achieve something. The key to overcome this problem is to believe in oneself and love oneself the way one is.
• Don’t be a flirt
Serious people who want to be engaged in serious relationships do not play around; they get down to the real deal. No one wants to date someone who is known for hopping into every available bed.

INCREDIBLE: Laboratory-grown penises ready to be tested in humans

Scientists at the Wake Forest Institute for Regenerative Medicine could be offering new hope to men with genital abnormalities or injuries in as little as five years, thanks to one of their many tissue engineering endeavours: lab-grown penises.
While that may sound a little far-out, these guys are among the world leaders in regenerative medicine and they’ve achieved some remarkable things in the past. Back in 1999, they became the first in the world to successfully implant a lab-grown organ into humans—a bladder. Since then, they’ve transplanted engineered vaginas into women born with defects or without vaginas entirely, and have started working on growing tissues and organs for more than 30 different areas of the body.
Team leader Anthony Atala began this genital journey back in 1992, but it was not until 2008 that the scientists proved transplanting engineered penises was theoretically possible. Having spent a considerable amount of time working out the best way to engineer these tricky organs, the team managed to grow 12 functioning penises for rabbit subjects.
After grafting them on to the recipients, all tried to mate with a female, eight successfully ejaculated, and four produced offspring. While these results were certainly encouraging, gaining approval for human trials is another kettle of fish. However, Atala is confident that it could be granted by the FDA within five years if they can prove the technique is safe.

Presidency Orders Ekiti Courts Shut Until After Fayose’s Inauguration

There were strong indications Thursday that the Presidency has given orders to the military and the police to keep the courts in Ekiti State shut until the inauguration of the state governor-elect, Ayo Fayose on October 16.

The move, which counters the directive of the National Judicial Council, NJC, to the courts to resume on Wednesday, is aimed at ensuring the inauguration of the governor-elect without any inhibition by way of injunction or judgment in the ongoing case challenging Mr. Fayose’s eligibility for the recent governorship election in the state.

The courts in Ekiti were shut down last month following the invasion of the premises of the headquarters of the State Judiciary by thugs allegedly loyal to Mr. Fayose, who was the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the poll.

The thugs had beaten up two judges – J.A. Adeyeye and I.A. Ogunyemi – during the invasion between September 22 and 24, forcing the state Chief Judge, Ayodeji Daramola, to petition the NJC, accusing the governor-elect of being behind the incidents.

10 Types Of People You Meet In Every Exam, Where Do You Belong?

At every point in life, when people write exams these are the set of people u will meet in the exam hall, however it is left to you to know where you belong.

Let's get started

1. FIRST TO FINISH I have come across some of them who have been maintaining this first to finish reputation. Even when an exam seems terribly difficult, they would still be the first to submit as if an extra mark is awarded. ( If they are Igbo and they take Yoruba Language exam, they would still maintain their reputation by submitting first). I don't know if it is a general estimation in which such students are regarded as being brilliant

2. THE CONFUSED ONES When invigilators say '' 5Mins To Go" you see discomfort and confusion printed on their faces as if they just lost a relative.

3. PEN BORROWERS The ones who ask, “ chairman abeg you get extra pen?” Coming to an exam without a pen when exam don almost start? Haaaa na wa oooo

4. EXTRA SHEET BOOKERS These students ask for more answer booklets while you are still battling with number one, you see them signal to the invigilators requesting for extra sheets, isn't this challenging ? How on earth would they have genuinely finished one paper after 15 minutes. All other explanations are physically impossible.

5. THE ACCLAIMED HIGH SELF ESTEEM The ones who don't know 1 out of 5 questions but don't want to ask because they don't want to feel beneath you, you see them looking at the ceiling as if they want to remember something but for where ?, they have nothing to remember jhor

6. THE SPELLERS The ones who ask for a definition, while dictating to them, they ask you to take a pause and spell a particular word for them. '' Chairman abeg help me spell am''. Ooooh common this isn't a primary school

7. TOILET USERS These students don't urinate more than twice a day but during an exam their bladders quickly get full. They take an excuse to the toilet by intervals. I wonder wetin them dey go do there.

8. THE HISSERS These are student who start hissing or making awkward sound when invigilators say “No form of contact allowed” they would start looking as if their world has come crashing down

9. THE ONES WHO CREATE ILLUSION BY HOLDING THEIR PENS FIRMLY AS IF THEY ARE WRITING SOMETHING These students create illusion by posing as if they are writing something but for where ?. They sit confidently and hold their pens firmly as if they want to write the whole world, they keep writing like a well prepared student, only to glance at their booklet and see they were only able to write a sentence.. Haha since morning?

10. MASQUERADE CARRIERS These are people who will succeed in using their expo even if battalion of soldiers are deployed to invigilate

Let me drop my pen here

Feel free to add yours or what you think about the writeup

Total Eclipse Of The Moon Occurs Wednesday

Sky watchers and observers of the lunar system will notice an extremely rare cosmic sight on Wednesday, October 8, when a total lunar eclipse is expected to occur in different parts of the World.

The total eclipse of thpe moon will result in a clash simultaneous rising of the sun in what scientists have called “selenelion,” a phenomenon that celestial geometry says cannot happen.

During the lunar eclipse, the sun and moon will be exactly 180 degrees apart in the sky. In a perfect alignment like this (called a “syzygy”), such an observation would seem impossible. The images of both the sun and moon are expected to be lifted above the horizon by atmospheric refraction. This will allow people on Earth to see the sun for several extra minutes before it actually has risen and the moon for several extra minutes after it has actually set. As a consequence of this atmospheric trick, watchers in different locations will have a chance to observe this unusual sight firsthand, with the possibility of simultaneously seeing the sun rising in the east while the eclipsed full moon is setting in the west.

12 Types Of Students You Will Meet In Night Classes

The following are the different categories of people you will meet in night classes in our various higher instititutions.

1.Customer care agents: this category of people will keep on receiving calls from the time the came to class till the sleep off. If you sit beside them "sorry" and it is more among ladies.

2.The lookers: this category of people will make sure that they look at any slightest movement around them. If they ever see a beautiful/handsome girl/guy then they will never cease catching a glimse at her/him. You will even wonder if these people actually came to study or to observe others study.

3.The late comers: this is common among girls. When you get to class from 4-7pm, you will discover that the class is empty. They are waiting till 9:30 when their presence will be noticed.

4.The preachers: I am sure this set of people annoy every reader in that class but nobody could pick the courage to rebuke them because nobody wants to be tagged enemy of God' word. The worst part is that these preachers come to preach when they are tired of reading and want to stretch themselves.

5.The itenarant readers: they are people who move in and out of the reading room every ten minutes. Sometimes you see them walking about the corridors. In an extreme cases they can read in four to six classes in a night.

6.The unarmed robbers: yes i call them unarmed because they look very innocent when they are reading beside you waiting for the operation time. The steal things like phones, reading lamp, purse/wallet, laptops, wrist-watches, textbooks etc depending on the person's level of expertise and stealing intentions.

7.The chronic sleepers. Hmmm, this set of people will just enter the class and lay their face on the desk and sleep off. They will not open their book from the time they came in till the time they left. They are always victims of the category of people above. The bad thing about these set of people is that the snore without regards and they fart without conscience.

8.The ash-crammers: they are our first classers, they will start reading from the time they came in till dawn. Sometimes i wonder what they will be doing during the day.

9.The eaters: they will buy biscuit, virju milk, lacasera, gala, chewing gum, infact all the snacks in the world just to attend night class. You will wonder if you are in nursery class or university night class.

10.The pingers: this set of people will never let their phones be. Some will even come with upto three phone. Pressing their phone every now and then that you will wonder if they are actually studying or proof-reading.

11.The toasters: if i mention everything without mentioning our guys and babes who come to night class to look for partners then my list is incomplete. This is for people who are single and searching every night.

12. The last of it all isthe couples: they will come to class together, continue talking, chatting and touching each other until they are tired then off they go. They have gone to night class.

Boko Haram leader dismisses claims of his death in new video

Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau dismissed Nigerian military claims of his death in a new video obtained by AFP on Thursday and said the militants had implemented strict Islamic law in captured towns.

“Here I am, alive. I will only die the day Allah takes my breath,” Shekau said, adding that his group was “running our… Islamic caliphate” and administering strict sharia punishments.

Abubakar Shekau, Boko Haram leader and Alex Badeh, Chief of Defence Staff Nigeria’s military said last week that Shekau was dead and that a man who had been posing as the group’s leader in the videos had been killed after fighting with troops in the far northeast.

Security analysts and the United States questioned the credibility of the military’s claim.

The new 36-minute video showed Shekau, in combat fatigues and black rubber boots, standing on the back of a pick-up truck and firing an anti-aircraft gun into the air.

Standing in front of three camouflaged vans and flanked by four heavily armed, masked fighters, he then speaks for 16 minutes in Arabic and the Hausa language widely spoken in northern Nigeria.

Ogun State Governor Ibikunle Amosun on Wednesday said average Nigerians were still suffering, despite the recent ranking of the country as the fastest growing economy in Africa.

The governor said this in his goodwill message to mark the country’s 54th Independence anniversary held at the MKO Abiola International Stadium, Kuto, Abeokuta.

Amosun, who also noted that the country ranked among the first 20 economies in the world, added that this had not translated to employment opportunities, growth of small and medium scale enterprises and per capital income of Nigerians.

He said, “We have been told that ours is the fastest growing economy in Africa. The truth, however, is that this newly-advertised growth has not reflected in the standard of living and/ or the per capital income of the average Nigerian.

I saw the Synagogue tragedy coming – TB Joshua

The founder of the Synagogue Church of all Nations, Prophet Temitope Joshua, has claimed that he saw a vision of the incident that killed at least 115 persons in the church guesthouse.

The victims, mainly South Africans, died when a six-storey guesthouse belonging to the church caved in on September 12.

The embattled clergyman, who said he knew something tragic was to befall his ministry, noted that he prepared his parishioners on how to handle the tragedy.

In a statement posted on the SCOAN’s official Facebook page, TB Joshua warned his critics against accusing him of failing to foresee the disaster that befell his ministry.

“For those who are outside the Lord, they would not know. When you are outside God, you will not know what I am talking. When you are outside the light, you cannot understand what I am talking.

“For the three weeks before the incident, if you heard my message and sat down, you would know I was giving you a vision and prophetic word on how to handle the situation at hand. Trials and tests are for our belief. I go by the directives of God,” TB Joshua claimed.

Tony Tetuila's New Campaign Poster (Photo)

A lot of critics have said said Tony Tetuila looks kinda not good enough to be a leader because of his blonde hair. But the "you-don-hit-my-hair" has come out with a new look... what do you think about that?

WEEP NOT MY COUNTRY, I BELIEVE IN YOU

An Article by Joseph Akinkuotu

While many keep pondering if indeed the 54th birth of Nigeria's independence is worth celebrated, many have garnered reasons to celebrate her 54th year of existence. I still keep pondering on the gimmick adopted by the those colonial masters who came with religion in their left hand, and killing weapons in the other hand. They came with the intention of adventurism. They trooped into our land unaware via our shores, forced their way into our land, forced the traditional rulers who resisted their invasion into unplanned exile to various unknown lands of no return; They bagged into our way of life, used us against us, and left with a huge and massive exploitation of both human and our natural resources. Hum.......Thank God for the emergence of the late foremost Edo born anti colonial and a pro democracy activist (Late Sir. Anthony Enahoro) who was the first dogged and articulate Nigerian to move the motion of Nigeria's independence in 1953.

Oh! I pity mother Nigeria. Her own wealth is been milked and syphoned by her dubious children, who to their personal aggrandisement had so far enthroned Kabalocracy at the dethronement of democracy. I pity her because her Legislative arm of government has now turned a legislooting industry of the federal republic. I also pity Mother Nigeria because she was stylishly granted a political independence, and still held captive in attaining her economic independence.

Perhaps, Ayi Kwei Armah was right in the literal justification of the title of his famous book"The Beautiful Ones Are Not Yet Born". What about now that The beautiful ones are now being born, but ugly ones have refused to be recognised and identified? They have clinged tenaciously to the power of what I don't know, thereby chewing raw, the lives of their both unborn and born beautiful ones.

Oh! Grand Mother Nigeria!!! I hope someday, you shall be alive to witness the emergence of the beautiful ones you have giving birth to, who shall drive and create an enabling environment for the making of a properly called Nigeria. A Nigeria that even a growing foetus in the womb will be so anxious to be welcomed, a Nigeria which will be a giant of Africa, not by geographical location on the map, but giant in all global and diplomatic ramifications.

My country, I believe in you. Irrespective of the current situation in my country Nigeria, I still see a new horizon of her lost glory being repatriated. I see a weak Nigeria of today waxing to become a stronger nation tomorrow in the comity of nations.

Undoubtedly, her avalanche of incredible human & mineral resources, with her wide variety of vegetation, from the wetland in the south, through the rain forest in the central and the savannah in the north has maintained a celestial discussion in the global terrain. Despite the corruption stigma of her people across the globe, I can still see clearly our Nigeria of the most populous black race as a blessed nation inhabited inherently by good people. With the current health and security crisis encapsulating her socio-political and socio-economic terrain, I still see a resilient Nigeria nation wining the seen and unseen battles engulfing her coast.

Regardless of her heterogeneous nature which encompasses her existing multi ethnicity plurality and her people's religious dichotomy, I still clearly see a unified Nigeria where I or my children to come will not be judged by the trademarks of their tribe nor by their religious affiliation, but by the sagacity of their dexterity prowess.

I, Joseph AKINKUOTU still strongly believe in my country NIGERIA, and I implore and charge you to never stop believing in her!

US Records First Case of Ebola

A patient at a hospital in Dallas, Texas has tested positive for the Ebola virus to become the first case ever diagnosed in the United States, Texas health officials stated.

According to a statement sent out Monday night by Texas Health Presbyterian Hospital. it said that the patient was being isolated based on his or her symptoms and recent travel history.

It was gathered from the spokeswoman for the Texas Department of State Health Services, Carrie Williams, that specimens from the patient were tested by a state lab and confirmed Tuesday by a separate test by the Centers for Disease Control.

Confirming the situation during a press conference held in Dallas Tuesday afternoon, Tom Frieden, M.D., Director of the Center for Disease Control, said that the unnamed patient did not show any symptoms when leaving Liberia on 19 September or entering the U.S. on 20 September.

It was revealed that the patient sought treatment on 26 September and was admitted to a hospital on 28 September.

During his first visit to the hospital, he complained of illness but was released before returning Sept. 28 as his condition worsened. A hospital official said it wasn’t until then that they discovered he was in West Africa.
