“They are going there to contribute their own quota ” – Segun Arinze speaks on entertainers delving into politics

Segun Arinze rather than condemn his colleagues like several others have done, one time AGN president, Segun Arinze, has instead praised the entertainers for embarking on such moves.

He has blamed critics for saying entertainers going into politics are doing that to enrich themselves.

According to him, the entertainers’ decision to go into politics should be a welcome idea and not an avenue to tear the entertainers apart.

‘Entertainers have worked hard, they make money for every show or film or music done; so people’s notion about entertainers going into politics to make money should be erased as they are going there to contribute their own quota and make the necessary change that the country need at this moment.’ he wrote on his page.

The Actor further added that entertainers were role models that people look up to, thus would make good leaders.

Governor Fashola Hosts Some Ebola Survivors

Lagos state Governor, Babatunde Fashola, today September 18th, hosted some Ebola survivors at his office at the state Secretariat in Alausa, Ikeja.

Speaking with the survivors, the governor commended them for coming forward to share their experiences, saying that they are proof that the disease is not a death sentence.

The survivors in attendance included the widow of late Port Harcourt doctor, Dr Emenuo Kelechi (left), Dr Ibeawuchi Morris (second left), Dr Fadipe Akinniyi (centre), Mr. Dennis Akagha (late Nurse Justina Ejelonu's fiance) and Dr Adaora Igonoh.

While sharing their experiences, one of the survivors and staff of First Consultant Hospital, Dr. Ibeabuchi Morris, said he was the first to receive late Sawyer at the hospital where he was first treated for Malaria.

He said when the blood result arrived it was confirmed that he was EVD positive. Sawyer died a few days later. Dr. Ibeabuchi disclosed that he started manifesting symptoms of the disease 12 days later as his body temperature continued to rise beyond 38.5 degrees Celsius. He said when his condition continued to degenerate, he reported to the Lagos State Ministry of Health and was advised to restrict his contact with members of his family.

Chibok girls’ WASSCE results raise girl-child education debate

The announcement on Tuesday that the West African Senior School Certificate Examination results of the 213 abducted Chibok girls were ready and undergoing review by the Federal Ministry of Education has again thrown up the challenges associated with the girl-child education in the country.

Boko Haram members stormed the Government Secondary School, Chibok, Borno State last April and forcibly took away no fewer than 250 female pupils of the school.

However, more than five months after the abduction, the Federal Government has yet to rescue the girls.

The invasion, experts, therefore say, has not only exposed the age-long practices and hindrance to the girl-child, it has also pointed to other sundry factors that have kept girls out of school. They identified rape, unwanted pregnancies, child labour and early marriage as some of the factors impeding the girl-child education.

Therefore, they are calling on the authorities to address and proffer a solution to these issues.

Man Dies At Sperm Bank After 4th Donation In 10 Days

A marathon masturbator in China died after he donated his seed to a sperm bank four times in just 10 days.

Zheng Gang was found slumped over and unconscious in a private booth at the Wuhan University facility in Hubei Province after staff noticed he hadn’t come out in two hours, The Daily Mail reports.

When the medics broke down the door, they discovered the 23-year-old lying on the floor and immediately tried to resuscitate him. Doctors ultimately pronounced him dead of a heart attack.

Gang’s family took the sperm bank to court because his relatives felt the clinic was responsible for his 2012 death, according to the Daily Mail. They demanded to be paid $648,545 in compensation and claimed that the clinic had forced him to sign up. They also said the clinic pressured the young man into making frequent donations and alleged the medical staff did not properly handle the situation once they discovered him unconscious.

But a court has now ruled that his demise was entirely his fault because he was capable of making his own decisions — including going on a masturbatory frenzy. Gang started studying to become a doctor at Wuhan in 2010. He joined the sperm bank program a year later and was known to be a regular advocate for the facility – sometimes even encouraing others to make their own donations.

Why We Pulled Out Of CAN — Catholic Bishops

The Christian Association of Nigerian, CAN, an umbrella body for the country’s teeming Christians, descended into full-blown crisis Wednesday with the Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria making public its decision to pull out of the fold over the way the Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor-led executive is running the association.

The Catholic bishop’s action is perhaps the first time in the association’s 37-year history that any of its five blocs would pull out over alleged poor leadership and politicization of the association.

CAN was formed in 1976 by five Christian blocs in the country: the Christian Council of Nigeria; the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, the Pentecostal Fellowship of Nigeria; Organisation of African Instituted Churches, and the Evangelical Fellowship of West Africa.

He said, “During police interrogation, it was discovered that the suspect tricked the young and innocent baby into his room by telling her to bring to him a bunch of keys outside the room.

Amosun, Daniel clash over ex-gov’s state of origin

Senator Ibikunle Amosun, Otunba Gbenga Daniel The Ogun State Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun and his immediate predecessor, Otunba Gbenga Daniel on Wednesday traded words over the latter’s state of origin.

The governor, who was on a working tour to Odeda Local Government Area of the state had said while addressing the crowd of party supporters that Daniel was not a native of Ogun State. He claimed the ex-governor was a Nigerian of Isoko extraction in Delta State.

He added that he was part of those who helped Daniel to become a Sagamu indigene.

But Daniel said such a remark was an insult on the people of Sagamu, where he said he hailed from, as well as a taboo and an effrontery on its traditional institutions.

Amosun was reacting to the allegations levelled against his administration by the former governor during a summit held at Odeda, in Odeda Local Government by the Labour Party two weeks ago.

Daniel had accused Amosun of selling off all the farmlands in the area to other states. He had said, “When I came into power in 2003, the first place we visited was Odeda and we recognised that agriculture was the mainstay of the economy, we therefore established 13 farm settlements.

“Today, we are sorry that this present government has started selling our farmlands to other neighbouring states. “He is busy constructing roads and bridges and Alabata road which we did when we came in 2003, when I was coming today, I tried to check on the road, the road was very bad. I want to ask you people of Odeda, what has Amosun done for you here? He has been constructing bridges all over and nothing was done here for you. He neglected you.”

How to Control excessive sweating

For many men, sweat is more than an unpleasant sensation. The rate at which their bodies produce sweat is disturbing. Here are some frequently asked questions about sweating excessively

Q: Does sweating excessively mean I am sick?

A:Sweating is a normal reaction when the body is working harder and needs to cool itself down. If you sweat more than other people when it’s hot or you are exerting yourself, that’s not usually a sign of sickness. But sometimes, heavy sweating is sign of a medical condition. It can be a warning sign of thyroid problems, diabetes or infection. Excessive sweating is also more common in people who are overweight. In this case, it is best to see a doctor.

Q: Is excessive sweating hereditary?

A:Sweating excessively may be a genetic disorder. If there is no trace of excessive sweating in the family line, then the person affected may be the first to carry the gene.

Q: What medical conditions can cause excessive sweating?

A:Excessive sweating could also be caused by anxiety, or tuberculosis in which case the patient experiences night sweating.

Q: What are some lifestyles to avoid in order to control excessive sweating?

A:In order not to sweat excessively, choose cold baths over hot baths, especially when you have events to attend. Cold baths have a way of cooling the body. Also, avoid spicy food and hot drinks. Wear clothes made of natural fibres like cotton and wool because they absorb sweat away from the body. Synthetic fibres such as polyester trap sweat, allowing it to stay wet and even soak through the clothes. Wearing dark clothes make people sweat excessively too.

Q: Do deodorants stop the rate at which people sweat?

A:Some deodorants and anti-perspirants are stronger than the standard ones and are enough to cushion the effects of excess sweat. Apply the anti-perspirants and deodorants to the armpits after each bath. Anti-perspirants will reduce the rate at which the armpit produces sweat by plugging the sweat pores while deodorants subdue the odour from the body.

He expressed his resolve to back a human rights lawyer, Mr. Femi Falana (SAN), to seek Sheriff’s prosecution, saying security agencies had enough evidence to prosecute the ex-governor.

Boko Haram insurgents attacked a market outside the key northeast Nigerian city of Maiduguri, local people who witnessed the incident told AFP on Saturday.

Why FG Ban Kpomo

There are indications that the Federal Government may soon be banning the sale and widespread consumption of hides and skins (kpomo) which is a delicacy to most Nigerians.

This indication emerged on Tuesday, September 9, when Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Akinwunmi Adesina called for competent regulations that would check the consumption and sale of the product, Vanguard reports.

Speaking at the 3rd joint anniversary of Animal Science Association of Nigeria (ASAN) and Nigeria Institute of Animal Science (NIAS) held at the University of Ibadan, Dr. Akinwumni noted that hides and skins ought to be tanned into leather for a very high dollar return to the farmer and tanneries.

According to him, if this is achieved, livestock farmers would stand good chances of making high dollar returns.

Schools can reopen – Health Minister

The Minister of Health, Prof. Onyebuchi Chukwu, on Friday said that there was no reason why schools should not reopen on Sept. 22.

Chukwu said this at a media briefing in Lagos.

“It is for the commissioners of education to advise the principals, at least for public schools, as well as private schools on when they can reopen.

“The ministry of health is like what the weather people are to the nation.

“They will tell you that the weather will be sunny, stormy or there will be heavy downpour, but they can never directly, for example, stop any plane from flying. “It is for the aviation people to take the advice and combine with other factors to decide whether flights will take off or not.

“So, I want to make it clear that from the technical point of view, there is absolutely no reason why any school, except if they have other problems that are not medical, cannot reopen,’’ he said.

The minister said that the ministry had no objections to schools resuming on Sept. 22.
