2 sentenced to death for stealing fowls in Osun
Justice Jide Falola of an Osun State High Court sitting in Okuku has sentenced two robbers to death for stealing fowls.
The convicts, Olowookere Segun and Morakinyo Sunday, were found guilty of forcefully breaking into the house of one Mr. Balogun Tope, a police officer attached to Divisional Police headquarters, Okuku, in April 2010 and carting away some of his belongings. The convicts were charged with conspiracy, robbery and stealing contrary to Section 6(b) and 1(2)(a) of Robbery and Firearm (Special Provisions) Act, cap R 11 Laws of Federation of Nigeria 2004 and Section (390)(1) Criminal Code Law, Cap 34, Laws of Osun State, 2002.
The prosecution team, led by the state Solicitor-General, Mrs Abiola Adewemimo, called six witnesses and tendered several exhibits during the prosecution. The prosecution told the court that on November 13, 2010, men were sighted around Balogun’s home armed with cutlass and a dane gun, and that while two of them were arrested, others escaped. The convicts were said to have confessed that they stole the complainant’s fowls, adding that they had been in his house before to steal. Adewemimo said: “They also stated that they had earlier robbed Alhaja Umani Oyewo in her house and stole broilers, eggs and kegs of vegetable oil from the house.”

FRSC Advocates Use Of Bicycles As Alternative Means Of Transport
The Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) on Monday said that the commission would continue to promote the use of bicycles as an alternative means of transportation in the country.
Then FRSC Zonal Commander, Mr Luka Kinya, said this at the formal launching of its annual ‘National
Bicycle Week’ in Osogbo. Kenya, who is in charge Osun, Ondo and Oyo, said this was being done aspart of its efforts to decongest the roads.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the launch is the second edition of the programme being pursued nationally by the FRSC.
He said the commission was partnering with the Osun Ministry of Works, Youths, Sports and Special
Needs for this year’s programme.
The zonal commander said the exercise was to sensitise the public on the need to embrace and
make use of the bicycle as an alternative and safe means of transportation.
He said it would be beneficial to the public to know that riding a bicycle for 30 minutes every week would give a person the chance of living 10 years
longer than some that do not.
He said bicycle riders also fall sick 25per cent less
than those who did not ride bicycles.
Kinya also said that bicycle riders save more money compared to those buying fuel to drive a car.
He said members of the public would therefore benefit a lot if they embrace the use of bicycle as a means of transportation.
I Implore Obasanjo to Stop Lying Before He Dies” - General Alabi- Isama
General Godwin Alabi-Isama has blasted Chief Olusegun Obasanjo over the contents of his recently released book, “My Watch,” saying it is an embodiment of lies. Read his explosive response to Obasanjo below, via SaharaReporters.
''I'm gravely pained to be trading words with General Olusegun Obasanjo once again on the history of Nigeria-Biafra War. He is an
elder and a former ruler who, ordinarily, should be treated with utmost respect. But how can one genuinely respect an old man
who tells lies like a badly raised child?
Obasanjo has obviously not recovered from the shock inflicted on him by my book, The Tragedy of Victory in which I exposed the
tissues of lies in his civil war memoir, My Command. It is said that a lie may travel for a thousand miles, but it takes just one step of truth to catch up with it.
I’m alive to stand up to him on the lies he has told on the war because I was a major participant in it. I kept records. With facts and figures at my finger tips, I have debunked Obasanjo’s lies in part three of my
book, consisting of one hundred and sixty five pages, sixty nine pictures, thirteen military strategies and tactics, maps and documents.
This was the same Obasanjo who published a fake Federal Government gazette that I was found guilty by the Army when I was never tried. I have proved that Obasanjo was an incompetent commander. I have
proved that he was a wily and cunning fellow, and an incredible opportunist who reaped
where he did not sow.
I have proved that he was an ingrate and a hypocrite. More importantly, I have proved that he was a coward, who ran away from the war front to go and look for phantom
ammunition. Rather than respond to my claims the way a gallant officer should, he has now responded like a motor-park tout, impugning my person and questioning my
ethnic lineage. I never said I was from Ibadan. I only schooled there.

I killed my master because I needed N150,000 for Dubai trip – motor boy
Chai...the way humans have become heartless nowadays is very bad.
A look at 32 year-old Sani Saidu , will never pass him for a betrayer, let alone a killer , owing to his quiet disposition and soft way of speaking. But his disposition has only proved to be deceptive after all , as he is currently cooling his heels at the Lagos State Criminal Investigations Department ,SCID, Yaba , Lagos, over a case of alleged murder.
The Gombe state born suspect allegedly stabbed one Mr Shittu Aremu, driver of a truck to death
while accompanying him to Port Harcourt, Rivers state, destination of the 40,000 litre of petroleum
product . The late Aremu whose age was put around 56 years, was a driver to S.K Transport Service Nigeria Limited . He reportedly loaded the truck with plate
number AGL 368 XA with aviation fuel worth N5.5 million and consequently left Lagos for Port
Harcourt on November 13, 2014, to discharge the product.
But before leaving Lagos State, he was said to have invited Saidu to work with him as his motor boy,
with a promise to pay him an undisclosed amount at the end of the trip. But little did he realize that the
invitation would end his life.
The first sign that signalled an unpalatable situation for the truck
driver, followed difficulty by his employee to reach him on his mobile phone, two days after he embarked on the journey.
Further checks from the tracking device on the truck reportedly showed that the truck had been
diverted from its original route to somewhere around Mutum Biu, in Taraba state.
Suspecting that the driver had a sinister motive up his sleeve ,the company reportedly lodged a
complaint at the State Criminal Investigation Department SCID, Yaba, where detectives swung
into action by travelling to Taraba state. Fortunately for them, the truck was recovered at the Taraba
state Police Command, with only Saidu, the motorboy.
Fuel scarcity looms as oil workers begin nationwide strike
NIGERIA Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, and its Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria, PENGASSAN, will today begin an indefinite nationwide strike, to protest the inability of the government to carry out Turn Around Maintenance, TAM, of the refineries and reduce pump prices of petroleum products in line with the slump in global prices of crude oil.
Other grievances include delay in the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB; non- implementation of the Nigeria Oil and Gas Industry Content Development, NOGICD, Act to reflect
Nigerians in management positions and expatriate quota law; appalling state of access roads to refineries and oil depots’ facilities and insecurity in the country that has led to the death of members.
Other complaints are appointments in government agencies in disregards to succession planning, compulsory deduction from workers’ salaries for
the National Housing Fund, NHF; casualisation and contract staffing and unfair labour practice by
companies and government agencies.
The grievances also include termination of appointment of the Port Harcourt Zonal Secretary of
the association by Total Exploration and Production, Total E&P, Nigeria Limited; retardation of staff
promotion in the Petroleum Technology Development Fund, PTDF; non-standardisation of
nomenclature and collective bargaining agreement of the Nigerian Nuclear Regulatory Agency, NNRA,
in line with what is obtained in other agencies in the oil and gas industry and refusal of the management
of Addax/Petrostuff Nigeria Limited and Chevron/ Sudelletra to recall sacked staff.
God has made me greater than my father– Rasheed Ladoja
Former Governor Rasheed Adewolu Ladoja will definitely not fizzle out of Oyo State politics, due to several variables which he created and the ones he does not have control over. The first is that he has a large number of political followership in the state, thanks to his Accord Party which won seats at the state and national assemblies. The other factor is the ubiquitous challenges that former governors face in terms of performance in office. In this
interview, he bares his mind on the orgy of violence in Oyo State, life at 70, governance in the state
since he left office and his reasons for planning to come back to Agodi Government House, Ibadan
having emerged as the gubernatorial candidate of his party ahead of 2015.
What is the dichotomy between leaders and rulers, which you highlighted as a major challenge and
vacuum lacking in several segments of the country?
Well, have you ever seen people contesting elections saying they are coming to rule you? They will just say they are coming to serve but the fact is how many of them do serve? Most of them serve themselves, they do not serve the people. Even the
new governors, how many of them go back to their old houses when they are through, even in Oyo State. Once they get to the office, they think where they are coming from is no more good for them. They either change it or expand it. And that is not
the issue because what is most important is the service you give to the people. And we have been
able to prove to the people that we are the “Oselu”and not the “Ojelu”.
People are the focus of our government, serving them is also our focus. And that is our issue with
the present administration. We are not saying don’t build infrastructure or don’t take people off the street but create those places first and make it
affordable for them. What is the essence of the new place you get for them, how are they going to fill it
up after you have destroyed all their wares? And some of them even died in the process. The road side traders, they borrowed money from micro
finance, the thing is so painful. Most of them died, most of them went into shock and they can’t come out. That is not the essence of government. That is why we are saying that we are coming here to serve the people.

Photos: Meet Nigerian Guitarist Who Was Rejected From School Because He Has No Fingers Or Palms
Simeon Djagbo a graduate of Delta State University was born without fingers or palms but he has not let that stop him in life. Simeon here
explains how his parents have been his pillar, how they stood by him and how he was first rejected from school because of his condition. The school
authorities felt I could not write and might scare other students away from enrolling with the way I
look, he said.
About How He Became A Guitarist
“My church brought a man to teach the guitar to others. I was in the drum section just watching as he was teaching a lady to play a progression on a particular song. I watched the way the lady’s fingers were moving on the strings and I was capturing it in my head. When she dropped it, I
picked the guitar up and played it exactly the way she was taught and everybody was shocked, because I was not taught how to play it. Although, I was always sneaking to play the guitar because some concerned people felt I would injure myself. I kept at it and became better. I feel God divinely directed me to the guitar.”
My Parents Are My Pillar
“My parents never gave up on me and treated me like a king; they supported me financially and prayerfully. I wanted to enroll in a primary school,
but the school administrators rejected me because they felt I could not write. They also felt that my physical defect would scare off children from the school. My parents got information about a school owned by a white woman, St. Lukes Nursery and Primary School in Warri, Delta State. From there I moved to Sure Success College, Warri for my secondary education. I later gained admission into Delta State University, Abraka where I read Library and Information Science."

Dimeji Bankole Kicked Out Of Ogun Governorship Race 24hrs To Primary
Chief Bayo Dayo, Chairman of. the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in Ogun State has declared that the former Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole is not among the aspirants of the party that will contest the governorship election primaries in
the State today.
He disclosed that the party was not aware of the former Speaker’s aspiration to vie for the exalted seat.
The Peoples Democratic Party has fixed Monday for its governorship primary across the State.
The Party said Bankole was not one of its eleven aspirants that will be contesting in tomorrow’s primary election. The party added that the former Speaker did not buy the expression of intent form from the State secretariat in Abeokuta,
which would have formally announced him as an aspirant in the contest.
The State Party Chairman of the PDP, Chief Bayo Dayo disclosed this Sunday while addressing journalists at the party secretariat in Abeokuta. He alleged that Bankole had since 2011 after losing his re-election bid into the House of Representatives, distanced himself from the party in the State.
He said he will never be a party to the
alleged plan to pick the former Speaker as the consensus governorship candidate of
the PDP in the State.
According to him, “I’m still saying that I am not aware that Dimeji Bankole is contesting the governorship in Ogun State. The money we are using to run this party is enormous. Some people have been doing that for years. Somebody cannot just say because
he has been to Harvard, Cambridge or Oxford, he is coming to lead us overnight. It’s not going to happen.
” So, if you are contesting, you must come to the State secretariat and obtain an expression of interest form. Those funds that are given to us by the various aspirants are the forms we are using for all these primaries, congresses we are doing. We do not have special funds for all these
things. It is the money contributed by all these aspirants that we are using. The arrangement about Dimeji Bankole, I do not know anything about it,” Dayo maintained.
The Chairman revealed that, unlike other governorship aspirants of the party in the State, Bankole had failed to show seriousness about his aspiration to become the party’s standard bearer. He said that Bankole had only been looking
for a “short cut” to become the PDP
governorship candidate, instead of going through due process.

Man flees home after raping daughter
The police are on the trail of a 50-year-old man, Vincent Uzor, who is on the run after allegedly raping his 14-year-old daughter.
PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim was raped last week Tuesday in the Ebute Meta area of Lagos State where Uzor lived with his second wife.
It was gathered that the victim’s mother died about seven years ago after which she started living with her grandmother.
However, when the old woman became plagued with ill health, she was said to have been taken to the Ogijo area of Ogun State, where she stayed with an aunt.
But the aunt, three weeks ago, reportedly sent her to her father in Ebute Meta, saying she wanted to travel.
The Primary four pupil in an interview with our correspondent said her father defiled her while she was in the kitchen.
She said, “My mother died seven years ago. I did not know my father because I grew up with my grandmother. It was when I was 12 years old that I was told I had a father.
“Three weeks ago, my aunty told me I would stay with my father for a few days because she was travelling and did not want to leave me alone at home. That was how I went to stay with my father.
“On Tuesday, around 6.30pm, my father asked me to warm the soup on the stove. He suddenly followed me inside the kitchen and shut the door. I thought he wanted to cane me, and I started begging him.
“Instead, he removed his clothes and pulled my skirt and paints. Then he had sex with me. It was painful and blood gushed out from my private parts. He then said he was sorry.”
The victim said her father gave her N500 for treatment after she complained of pains in her legs.
She added that he took her to a traditional doctor who prescribed some concoction for her.
“My father told me he wanted to travel. I used the money he gave me to buy recharge cards and I called my elder brother and some other people to tell them what happened to me,” she said.
However, before the police could arrive at the scene, Uzor was said to have fled the house.
The victim was reportedly taken to Ogijo, where the matter got to the attention of the Ogun State Coordinator of the Centre for Defence of Human Rights, Mrs. Toyosi Bello.
Bello accused the police of trying to cover up the incident.
She said, “The Denton Police Division wanted to muddle up the matter and I decided to take the case to Nigerians. This girl is almost an orphan and needs help, but the police are trying to compound her problems.”
Our correspondent learnt that the victim and Bello were later connected with a human rights organisation, Project Alert on Violence against Women.
