10 ways to spend less on Valentine’s Day

1. Have dinner at home – Instead of going out on dinner date you can consider having the dinner at home. This should resonate well with couples who are hardly at home due to busy work schedules or even intending couple just getting to know each other. Dinner dates at home helps you both avoid distractions associated with restaurant settings. You guys simply spend quality time at a cheaper price. You just need to make the setting very special.

2. Order dinner – If you are not the type who likes to cook or don’t know how to cook you can also consider ordering dinner outside. Loads of restaurants in Nigeria now provide such services in a very timely manner. Even though it might be slightly expensive it saves you a lot of stress, like having to drive out in traffic. You also save money on buying expensive drinks which fancy restaurants typically mark up at times like this.

3.  Go somewhere different – Val’s day mustn’t be spent in exotic restaurants or locations only. Why not visit somewhere different and traditional like the movies, beach or spa. You could also visit memorable places such as where you first met or saw each other. Going to somewhere different more often than not takes you away from locations that might make you spend more on Val’s day.

Doyin Okupe Describes Online Polls as Political Masturbation

Read the excerpt of where Doyin Okupe described Facebook and Twitter polls as political masturbation below:

"People talk on face book and twitter as if the elections will be decided here. What goes on here is nothing but political masturbation. The actual voting takes place in the real world. There are about 13m and 4.5m Nigerians on facebook and Twitter respectively. On the average because of multiple presence we can assume a number of 15m. 50% or 7.5m are not registered. Out of the remaining 7.5m another 50% will not vote. So we are looking at about a max of 3.75m voters from these platforms. The projected voters for this election is expected to be about 52/55m.

Presidency Shops For Jega's replacement

With the successful postponement of the elections by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, the Presidency has launched a two-pronged war to ensure that President Goodluck Jonathan wins the election convincingly.

Govt. May Shift Elections By Six Weeks

Citing the need to defuse the rising tension in the land, among other reasons, the Federal Govern ment is set to shift the coming polls by six weeks, the Daily Times has learnt.

The presidential and National Assembly elections are currently scheduled for February 14, while those of the states will hold on February 28. Daily Times authoritatively learnt that under the new proposal, the elections may now hold at the end of March.

The proposed change is hinged on the mounting tension in the country sequel to violent displays at some of the ongoing campaigns across the country. The feeling inside government circles is that there is need to let the tension, which is nearing boiling point in the country at the moment, come down before the election could hold, otherwise there could be an implosion. Sources say that within the six weeks, efforts will be made to calm frayed nerves and encourage more people to embrace peace.

It is feared that the presidential election in particu lar may lead to an implosion in the country. The body language in the North suggests a possible repeat of the bloodletting that occurred after Jona than was declared winner of the 2011 election, if the incumbent wins again.

It is also feared that a similar turmoil may erupt, especially in the South South, if General Muhammadu Buhari of the All progressives Congress (APC) wins the election. Jonathan of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is an Ijaw from the South South area of the country. Besides, there is uncertainty over whether the elections could validly hold in the North Eastern states of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa which have been wracked by the Boko Haram insurgency. There are security concerns over the safety of full- time and ad-hoc staff of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC) during the polls.
