Armed robbery suspects yesterday
invaded a commercial bank in
Ikare Akoko in Akoko North West
Local Government Area of Ondo
State, killing about 15 people.
According to a source, the armed robbery suspects, who donned police uniform, attacked a police station before invading the bank at Jubilee junction, along Ikare-Owo road and carted away undisclosed amount of money. He said the hoodlums, who arrived in two military vans, divided themselves into two groups with one facing the police station and the other attacking the bank.
The eyewitness said the bandits stormed both places about 3pm and dynamited the bullet-proof bank doors to gain access. He said the bank official and security were helpless as the robbers operated without any hindrance. No fewer than 11 people, who were in the bank to transact business, were feared killed while four policemen were also killed during the attack, which lasted over an hour, after which the bandits headed towards Edo State.
The attack paralysed both social and economic activities of the ancient town, as shops and other commercial centres closed for the day.
