Alleged mastermind of Nyanya Bomb blast, Aminu Ogwuche Sues FG for N100m

The alleged mastermind of the Nyanya bomb attack Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche has challenged his ‘illegal’ detention without trials.
The ex-soldier is, therefore, demanding a whooping sum of N100m as compensation over detention by
the Department of State Services (DSS).

His request is coming barely one week after he was discharged by an Abuja court. Ogwuche made this prayer through his counsel, Ahmed Raji (SAN) with an application pursuant to Order 2, Rule (1),(2),(3) of the Fundamental
Enforcement Procedure rule and Sections
34,35,36,37 and 42 of the 1999 Constitution seeking for the enforcement of his fundamental human right.

Joined as defendants are the DSS and the Attorney General of the Federation AGF. But, the court struck
out AGF’s name, on the request of the applicant. Counsel to Ogwuchen further submitted that it was based on the request of the Federal Government
that the Interpol placed a red alert on the applicant contrary to the impression that it was the interpol
who did so.

Alamieyeseigha’s Son May Have Died Of Drug Overdose In Dubai

A news platform, ‘TheCapital’ has reported that Oyamuyefa Alamieyeseigha, son of a former Governor of Bayelsa State, Chief Diepreye Alamieyeseigha, died of a drug overdose.

Oyamuyefa Alamieyeseigha lost his life on Saturday, October 11, in Dubai, UAE. The initial report of Oyayumefa’s death stated that he was found dead by the staircase in his father’s house in Dubai, UAE, which led many to believe and assume that he was murdered.

But the news platform claims to have exclusively gathered that “excessive consumption of a banned substance was responsible for the untimely death of
the 24-year old.” According to the report, Oyamuyefa collapsed after allegedly taking a drug overdose which reacted in
his system and led to his death.

The site alleged that “a source revealed that the Alamieyeseighas have been hiding the truth from the public to save them the embarrassment likely to
be caused by the revelation.” The report further stated that Oyamuyefa lived a
flamboyant lifestyle as a student before his death.

Coffin Brought To PDP National secretariat In Abuja

Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) aspirants, who were disqualified from participating in last weekend state assemblies primaries yesterday stormed the party’s national secretariat in Abuja with coffin in protest.

The aspirants, who came with party thugs, carrying empty coffins, blocked the entrance to Wadata Plaza. National Woman Leader, Kema Chikwe
and National Vice Chairman, South-South of the party, Cairo Ojougboh, were turned back by the aspirants. Some of them, who spoke with newsmen accused
the PDP National Working Committee and the state chapter of the party of conniving with former Minister of State for Education and governorship aspirant, Nyesom Wike of frustrating their
aspirations.

A state Assembly aspirant, Davis Saloka, from Eleme constituency, said they were at the PDP secretariat to kick against the “open robbery perpetrated against them by the party.” Saloka told newsmen that no fewer than 107 members of the party paid to obtain the expression of interest and nomination forms, but noted that only 32, whom he claimed were loyalists of Nyesom, were given what he called “dubious clearance,” while the rest of them were disqualified.
“We all bought forms to participate in the PDP primary election but what we saw was out of the ordinary.

“We attended the screening exercise but we did not know our fate until Friday night when we saw a list pasted, indicating that only 32 persons were cleared to participate in the election.
“We discovered that those nominated from Wike’s camp were given clearance which gave them automatic ticket while the rest of us were screened out.
“The most annoying thing was that we were not told the reason we were disqualified, and it is more curious to note that all we saw was a list that was
neither signed nor was on a PDP letter head, but just contained the names of Wike’s boys as the only ones cleared to participate in the party primary.
“On Saturday, they just wrote the names of these people and said they were the winners of the PDP party primary where elections were not held. “It is injustice, we won’t accept it,” he said.

13-year-old flees home with suspected lover

Hmmmmm....wonders shall never end in this world of ours.
The police in Lagos are battling to find a 13-year- old girl, Chikwuo Ezennia, who reportedly fled her house with a yet-to-be-identified man, suspected to be her lover.
PUNCH Metro learnt that Ezennia, who is in Basic 4, had come to Lagos from Nneni village in the Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State to spend her holiday with her relatives. Our correspondent gathered that the girl, however, fled her relatives’ apartment on Ishola Bello Close, Iyalla Street, Alausa, Lagos, in the afternoon of Thursday, November 20, when the family had gone
out.

It was gathered that when the girl’s aunt, Mrs. Ambrose Okolo, and her husband returned from work at about 6pm, Ezennia was nowhere to be found. Our correspondent gathered that during the initial search for her, some neighbours told the Okolos that they saw the teenager walking away with a man in the afternoon. Ezennia was said to have told the neighbours that her aunt maltreated her and had travelled away for
a week. Hence, she would be staying with a friend during that period.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the family reported the matter at the Alausa Police Division the following day. It was gathered that the police invited some
persons, who allegedly saw the girl, for
interrogation. Our correspondent gathered that Ezennia, who speaks only Igbo fluently, was supposed to return
to her village by the end of December. It was further learnt that Ezennia had a record of fleeing home to stay with men when she was in the village in Anambra.

When PUNCH Metro visited the apartment on Tuesday, Okolo, who is a self-employed chartered accountant, said the family was anxious to know
the supposed lover, who had been shielding the girl, adding that all efforts to locate her had proved
unsuccessful.

Tinubu.

Atiku and the three others wrote the APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, on Nov 27,  “advising” the party chairman to retain Abuja as

Jonathan worse than Nebuchadnezzar –Soyinka

Nobel Laureate, Prof Wole Soyinka, says President Goodluck Jonathan is worse than neo-Babylonian king, Nebuchadnezzar, describing Jonathan as a President that embraces impunity.

According to the account of the Holy Bible, Nebuchadnezzar at the height of his reign became too arrogant and God tampered with his heart and made him to eat grass and live like an animal for seven years.

The title of the text Soyinka read at the briefing was, “King Nebuchadnezzar – The Reign of Impunity.”
The opening of the address read, “I shall not insist that the historical/biblical figure of Nebuchadnezzar is uniquely apt for the pivotal figure of the ‘democratic’ history in the making at this moment – for one thing, Nebuchadnezzar was a nation builder and a warrior.

“One could argue even more convincingly for the figure of Balthazar, his successor, or indeed Emperor Nero as reference point – you all remember him – the emperor who took to fiddling while Rome was burning. However you should
easily recall why I opted for King Nebuchadnezzar – the figure that currently sits on the top of our political pile himself evoked it, albeit in a context
that virtuously disclaimed any similarities, even tendencies.”

He blamed Jonathan for the security invasion of the National Assembly, during which lawmakers resorted to scaling the fence of the Assembly complex to gain access to the chambers.

10 Types Of Lecturers You Meet In The University

These kinds of lecturers are typical of a Nigerian university

1.The Sadist - Most students are scared of him. He comes to class, threatens everyone, you rarely see him smile, always serious with a straight face. He
never gives an 'A' and when result comes out, his courses are always mass failure. He is usually the most hated lecturer.

2.The comedian - He is more or less a stand-up comedian. Always lively, students look forward to his laugher-filled lectures but once taken for
granted, he can be shocking. He is usually stingy with marks/grades.

3.The Student lecturers - Also known as Assistant lecturers. They usually start as errand boys to some top lecturers in the department, they mark exam scripts, invigilate during tests & exams and
later graduate to helping the lecturers with some of their lectures. They are usually hyperactive, aggressive and proud which usually results into a
clash with the students.

4.The Crazy Lecturer - He rarely smiles, does things in an unusual manner including ways of speaking(with big grammar like Hon. Patrick Obahiagbon), a funny dress sense(with long bling- bling chains like Ayo Oritsejafor). He is always
REAL and serious, doesn't care what his students feels or think about him, highly unpredictable and lectures for 3/4hrs until the students complains.

5.The Fatherly Lecturer - He is always matured, homely, approachable, and friendly. He takes his time to extensively teach his students in such a 1way that once you fail his course, you know that
you truly deserve to fail. He is students' favourite.

6.The Lazy Lecturer - He comes to class twice in a semester(One, for course introduction & later, for revision, a week to Exams). He doesn't lecture nor teach, he only comes to read out loud while the
students listen. He doesn't care if you understand or not, and 15 or 20mins, he is done for the day's lecture.

7.The 'Runs' lecturer - He comes to class, gives shabby lectures and drop his mobile digits or his errand boy's digits(The coded students knows what
to do). #5k for 'C', #8k for 'B' and #10k for 'A' depending on the importance or Unit of the course.

8.The Departmental dog - Woman wrapper. He takes advantage of any vulnerable female student, it doesn't matter how young she is, the sex addict
just want to get laid at the slightest opportunity. Hide your babe, sister, daughter from him.

9.The story teller - 90% of his lecture is the story about his days in the University and how serious/ dedicated they were those days + how he still consult his 1973 lecture notebook. He talks about how bad the Gov't and the school management is,
especially if he is an ardent ASUU member. He usually receive at least 10 phone calls within a lecture.

10a.The Religion fanatic (Daddy G.O) - This type of lecturer comes to class to chip in the Gospel within his lecture, inviting the entire class to his church &
mid week programmes. He is always gentle & Godly.

10b.The Religion fanatic (Mallam) - He comes to class and usually separates the female students from the male students before his lecture begins. He looks gentle and you don't need to be told before
you know he is a muslim. Take him for granted and  you will pay dearly for it.

Jonathan’s visit: OAU students clash, six injured

So OAU students can be this radical and violent.....hmmmmmmm....read what the Punch. reports about them
No fewer than six students were injured during a clash among some students of the Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, Osun State, on Sunday evening.
While some of the eyewitnesses described the fight as a power tussle between students who were loyal to the President of the Student Union, Ibikunle Isaac, and those of the Vice-President,
Oladejo Olufunmi, others described it as a cult attack.

They all, however, agreed that the clash was an aftermath of President Goodluck Jonathan’s visit to the institution.
It was learnt that the Education Rights Campaign members had just concluded a meeting at the Students’ Union Building when the fight broke out. Among those involved in the fight were some union executive members, suspended students of the university, members of the Security Committee of the SU and ERC members.

Some of the students, who suffered varying degrees of injuries, were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment. One of them, Tedy, was allegedly stabbed with a
pointed object suspected to be a screw driver, while another student, David, was dealt a matchete cut on his head.

It was gathered that the door to the SU President Office, where some students hid, was broken while  the occupants were thoroughly beaten. There are, however, two sides to the cause of the
fight. While some of the students said it was as a result of ideological differences, others inferred that it was related to the protest held during Jonathan’s
visit.

Jonathan, traditional rulers and some politicians were at the OAU for a conference, where Jonathan was endorsed ahead of the 2015 polls.
The campus fracas took a dangerous dimension when students of the school engaged one another at the school gate with weapons.

Chief Security Officer of the university, Mr. Paul Ogidi, said there was no cult attack in the institution.
“It is true that our students fought. There was no cult attack on our campus. We did not witness any attack, but a fight among our students,” he said.
But the Vice-President of the Students Union, Funmi Oladejo, insisted that what happened on the campus could be likened to 1999 cult attack that
claimed the lives of students.
She denied the fight as being factional, but hinted that the controversy that surrounded the presence of Jonathan on the university campus last Friday
contributed to the cause of the fight.

FG cancels training of Nigerian soldiers by US

The United States has announced the cancellation of the training of a battalion of the Nigeria Army, at the request of the Federal Government.
It said that the first two phases of the training were conducted between April and August, 2014, noting that it had provided untrained civilian personnel
with basic soldiering skills.

A statement from the Information Office of the US Embassy in Abuja, on Monday, regretted what it described as the premature termination of the exercise programme, which it said would have
trained the Nigerian soldiers to build their capacity to counter the Boko Haram terrorists.

The US government, however, said it would continue other aspects of the extensive bilateral security relationship, as well as all other assistance programmes.
The statement read, “At the request of the Nigerian government, the United States will discontinue its training of a Nigerian Army battalion. The first two. phases of training were conducted between April
and August 2014, and had provided previously untrained civilian personnel with basic soldiering skills.

“Based on mutual assessment of the Nigerian. Army and U.S. trainers, a third iteration of training was agreed upon with the intent of developing the battalion into a unit with advanced infantry skills.
“We regret the premature termination of this training, as it was to be the first in a larger planned project that would have trained additional units with the goal of helping the Nigerian Army build capacity
to counter Boko Haram.”

But a source in a strategic office close to the Federal Government operations, said Nigeria had more pressing problems to deal with than the training of military personnel, noting that members of the Nigeria Army “are well trained already and they don’t need any further training from the Americans.”

A Nigerian student, Nazifi Osman Muhammed was stabbed to death over the weekend in Ghana. Nazifi and his brothers Jamiru Osman, and Mustapha Musa were attacked in their home at
about 3:30am on Saturday by masked robbers, armed with knives which they used in attacking the brothers.

The victims, all students of Information
Communication Technology (ICT) at the Sikkim Manipal  University at Kwame Nkrumah Circle, in Accra were taken to Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital, by their neighbours.

On arrival, the doctor pronounced Nazifi dead due to deep cuts inflicted on his chest. The incident has been confirmed by the Kotobabi District Police Commander, Deputy Superintendent
of Police (DSP) Elizabeth Tiekuwa Dankwa, who disclosed that one person has been arrested in connection with the robbery attack.

Devaluation: Naira Now N183 To The Dollar

Nigeria’s naira touched a new record low of 183.05 against the dollar on Monday, driven by concerns over a sustained low oil price and expectations foreign investors would demand more dollars to pull out of local assets, dealers said.
The currency was trading down 2.4 per cent from Friday’s closing level.

The central bank has struggled to keep the naira within its preferred band even after devaluing the currency by 8 per cent last Tuesday in a bid to halt a decline in the foreign reserves of Africa’s biggest
economy. Oil sales provide around 95 per cent of those reserves.

The bank’s target band after devaluation is 5 per cent plus or minus 168 to the dollar, but doubts remain about whether it went far enough given the likelihood of continuing low oil prices and the fact
that Nigeria’s oil savings were being depleted even during a period of record high crude prices.

The coming weeks will test the bank’s ability to maintain that level – the naira is trading well below it and forex reserves are running out, reports
Reuters.

Boko Haram: Christians Will Soon Begin To Fight Back- Primate Primate

Ayodele Olabayo has once again called on President Jonathan to get a grip of this country. The leader of the Yahweh Church, who once warned against insurgents taking over some parts
of Nigeria said, he told them something needs to be done back then to avert all the misfortunes the country now faces, but no one listened to him. He has spoken again, and here’s what he told City People magazine.

“The President has to be careful with the way he runs this country. “Those in government don’t even think of the poor people any longer. To start with, people are suffering, people are dying. Early
this year, I spoke about the security problems, that something needed to be done. I spoke about the Insurgency, Terrorism, they didn’t take this serious. The militants are involved in what is
happening in the North.”

“All they are after and working towards is that they don’t want elections to take place there. And all these evil people are not being checked. Worst things are happening. People are not talking.
Churches are being burnt; nothing is being done about it. It is not that we Christians can’t fight back or retaliate. It’s because we fear the Lord. It will get to a stage now where we would not agree
any longer. Enough is enough. President Jonathan should stop all these nonsense before it consumes us all. I am afraid for him. He should stop all these killing of Christians and burning of churches.
Enough is enough”.

What do you think about Christians fighting back in relation to the teachings of Jesus?

Photos: Pope Prays In Istanbul Mosque In New Outreach

Pope Francis has taken part in a Muslim prayer alongside the Grand Mufti of Istanbul on the second leg of his three-day visit to Turkey. Francis stood on Saturday morning with his head
bowed and hands clasped in front of him in a two minutes of silent prayer inside the 17th-century Sultan Ahmet mosque, aiming to show respect for Islam and encourage stronger ties between the
two faiths.

"May God accept it," Rahmi Yaran, the Grand Mufti of Istanbul told the pope at the end of the prayer.

A group of school children waving Turkish and Vatican flags chanted "Long live Pope Francis" as the pope cheerfully left the mosque. More photos

I’ll end insurgency if elected President – Buhari

A former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), has promised to end insurgency and other forms of insecurity in the country, if elected President under the platform of the All Progressives Congress in the 2015 general elections.

The pledge is coming amidst rising insurgency by the Boko Haram Islamic sect in the North-East and especially the Friday’s attack on Kano Central Mosque

He also denied sharing money to delegates during his recent visit to Imo State during his nationwide tour to meet the APC delegates.

The Head (Media, Publicity and ICT) in Buhari Support Organisation, Dr. Chidia Madhouse, stated this in his weekly brief on “GMB meet the party delegates nationwide tour,” read to journalists on
Friday in Abuja.

“At no time did GMB, all through this meet the delegates tour, share money or lobby any delegate with money. As we all know, a leopard can never change its spot. Friends and sympathisers may have privately encouraged their colleagues to
attend the delegates’ meeting, certainly not GMB directing or approving any monetary exchange, as being falsely reported by some online media,” he
stated.

In his nationwide tour to meet delegates, Buhari had visited Abia, Bayelsa, Imo, Delta, Cross River and Rivers states, where Governor Rotimi Amaechi
described him as a committed and focused leader whose watchword was integrity.

Maduekwe said, “The summary f all the response and the welcoming remarks by GMB at various state capitals can be summarised. He made it clear that this country must first be secured and efficiently and effectively managed if our nation is to bounce back to normalcy for our people to prosper. Leadership integrity must be the focused
watchword if we must salvage Nigeria once again.
“We recall that we fought a civil war without borrowing a kobo. But now, despite budgeting well over 25 per cent of the national annual budget to defence, we are borrowing $1bn to prosecute insurgency. Yet, all we keep hearing is the low morale of our fighting forces as they melt before the rampaging ill-trained insurgents.
“A situation where about 20 LGAs of this country are under an alien flag can no longer be tolerated. APC is ready to turn the tide to bring Nigeria back into the fold of proud and respectable community
of African nations. Our watch-word is: Securing our nation, prospering our people.”

It can be more if we all know our status. The national figure, however, is 3.4 per cent. ”

Olamide's Story For The Gods: A Nigerian Song Recommending Rape?

 By Eseoghene Al-Faruq Ohwojeheri

This is perhaps the most difficult article I’ll ever write. It is difficult because I write with a frustrating reality in mind that I am most likely wasting my time. For once I write about an evil, so evil it is unspeakable, yet I feel there is no hope; no one will come to my aide, no one will come to the aide of the women who were violated and their dignity taken away so much so that death will feel better. No, people will celebrate the culture and people will dance to its tunes. Oh, I feel hopeless! Nigerian hiphop star, Olamide

The police have arrested a gardener, Godswill David, for allegedly defiling a primary 3 pupil in the Ikota Housing Estate, Lagos State.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the victim lived in the same house with David. The house was said to be owned by the suspect’s
father.

Our correspondent learnt that on the fateful day, 20-year-old David asked the victim to fetch him a sachet of detergent.
The victim was said to be searching for the detergent when the suspect followed her into the room and forcibly undressed and raped her.

She was said to have turned back and shut the door.

David allegedly threatened the victim that she would die if she told anyone what transpired between them.

an aunt, who in turn narrated the incident to her parents.

The matter was reported at the police station, leading to David’s arrest.
A police source told PUNCH Metro the victim had been taken to a hospital where she went through some medical tests.
