AAUA Matriculates 3,634 As -Have the right Attitude to your Studies, Vice Chancellor tasks Students

The Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba-Akoko (AAUA) on Tuesday matriculated 3,634 students, amounting to twenty per cent of the applicants that sought admission to the university. The matriculation ceremony witnessed the new students take the matriculation oath which was directed by the university’s Registrar, Mr Bamidele Olotu. The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, who was represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof. Rotimi Ajayi, in his speech, congratulated the students and urged them to have the right attitude towards their studies to achieve academic success. He said: “I sincerely advise you to guide your admission jealously and avoid anything that may want to rob you of this golden privilege to study in the university. Your sole purpose of coming to the university is to achieve academic laurels and build your character so that you may become a more responsible citizen and be maximally useful to the society. Achieving this and coming out in flying colours start by having the right attitude to your studies from the beginning.” Prof. Ajayi also advised the newly-matriculated students to eschew any form of social vices that might deprive them of their admission, adding that the university had ‘zero tolerance for social vices.’ He however expressed concern over how difficult admission into university had become. “I specially congratulate our matriculants because admission into universities in our country has over the years become a stiff contest as there are millions of students jostling for the limited spaces available. In the last ten years or so, Nigerian Universities have not been able to offer admission to more than twenty per cent of the millions of applicants that are qualified for admission,” He said. Meanwhile, one of the matriculants, Akinrolayo Olushola, 100 level Public Administration department, who spoke to CAMPUSLIFE, expressed his joy and happiness towards the matriculation ceremony and promised to work hard to achieve academic excellence. Similarly, Molebi Ayoola, 100 level Economics department, told CAMPUSLIFE that he was full of joy towards his admission into the university despite all the challenges of gaining admission.
