AAUA Graduates 6, 341, 26 Bag First Class

Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Ondo State, Nigeria, will graduate 6, 341 at the 5th Convocation Ceremony of the institution which will
hold on Thursday 6th and Friday 7th, November, 2014. Of this number, 26 graduands will receive
First Class Degrees.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof. Femi Mimiko, gave the revelation on Tuesday last week during the Press Conference kick-starting the Convocation
Ceremony.

Prof. Mimiko said, “A total of 6,341 graduands from the 2011/2012 and 2012/2013 sets will be
convocating this year. Faculty of Science with 1,519 has the largest chunk, followed by Social and Management Sciences, Arts, Education and Law in
that order. There are 412 graduands receiving postgraduate degrees, 10 of whom are in the PhD
category.

“Of the two sets, 26 graduated in First Class; 1,414 in Second Class Upper Division; 3,505 in Second
Class Lower Division; 993 in Third Class.

The VC said the 5th Convocation Ceremony was unique in the sense that it coincided with the
University’s Founder’s Day of 15th year
Anniversary, saying, “This is not a coincidence but fallout of a deliberate initiative to institutionalize the
university and put it on a competitive pedestal and it is my hope that this profound tradition of
scholarship shall be sustained here.”
Prof. Mimiko said AAUA would continue to strengthen the integrity and quality of its academic programmes through training and retraining of its
staff and re-inventing and re-engineering of its programmes and emplacement of a broadening research agenda, with a view to churning out globally competitive graduates.

The VC highlighted some of the recent academic and infrastructure landmarks of the university.

He said, “Early this year, the United States
Transparency International Standard, USTIS, after its 2013 school ranking survey, proclaimed AAUA
the Best State University in Nigeria. A graduate of AAUA, Opeyemi Akeem Longe, who made First
Class in Law, the first in the University’s 15-year history, did not only repeat the feat at this year’s
Final Bar Examination of the Nigerian Law School, he is indeed the best result nationally!”

On infrastructural development, he said, “The Visitor to the university, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, inaugurated
six projects during the last convocation ceremony on Friday, March 22, 2013. Between that time and
now, the University has added at least seven other major projects to further tackle the challenge of
space… There is the 30-Classroom Quadrangle; the 500-capacity Nelson Mandela Hall, the Central
Research Laboratory Building, the Health Centre Building, and the Eastern Campus Gate. Above all,
there is the iconic Senate Building, which is unarguably the most compelling, the biggest and
most modern University Senate building in Nigeria.”

He thanked the Ondo State Governor, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, for demonstrating genuine interest in
ensuring delivery of quality education in the State.
