The Kano State Government has denied rumours making the rounds, especially on the social media, that a new emir has been selected to replace late Ado Bayero.
There are widespread reports that the son of the late emir, Sunusi Ado-Bayero, had been selected.
Mr. Bayero is considered a frontline contender for the position, as is a former governor of the Central Bank, Lamido Sanusi.
The Senior Special Assistant on Media, to Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso, Jaafar Jaafar, told PREMIUM TIMES Sunday afteenoon that Mr. Kwankwaso was yet to make the announcement.
“Contrary to recent media reports that the new Emir of Kano has been announced, the Governor of Kano State did not make such announcement at the moment. As promised, he is expected to take decision and make announcement later today,” Mr. Jaafar said.
