“Put on a Gender Lens”, “No To Abduction”, “Bring Back Our Girls”, these were part of the inscriptions on placards as women in AdekunleAjasin University Akungba-Akoko in troop held a rally to promote gender equality.
The rally which was held on Wednesday witnessed a large turnout of from female officers  and both female students of the institution.
The rally kick-started from the Vice Chancellor’s office and terminated at the university’s sport complex.
In an interview with the Sparkle, the Acting Director of Women Studies and Development, Dr. (Mrs) A. N. Duyilemi, she encouraged the university to increase women participation in the decision making activities in the university.
She said: “We observed that women are bottom heavy. The women are not many at the managerial level where decisions are taken. This is very poor to the women folk. We are actually trying to empower our women to uplift themselves and also appealing to the men to try to bring more women to the top so that there can be balance in whatever we are doing.”
Dr Duyilemisaid the motive for the rally among others was to create awareness for the International Women Day on the 14th of June.
She said: “ This rally is to sensitize the university community for the need for importance of women in every community and here we are condemning all social vices among our female students. We are saying no to cultism,no to sexual harassment, no to indecent dressing and no to abortion.”
